Following Asian Rhinoplasty, will my ethnicity change?
Dr. Kwan believes that in doing Asian Rhinoplasty, the surgeon needs to be as conservative as possible. If the nose bridge is built too high, or the shape is changed too much, the person might actually look a bit more Caucasian and less Asian. It is equally important to understand the patient’s needs as to how they want to build their bridge. Some patients do want to have a more Caucasian looking nose. But in Dr. Kwan’s opinion most patients need to have a conservative type of build up of the bridge, while the emphasis must be on shaping the tip of the nose. “If we stick with the more conservative thickness of the nasal implant, then the patients will have get a much more natural looking nose, and still retain their ethnicity,” says Dr. Kwan.
