Surgeon near Flushing explains the browlift procedure
A brow lift from the office of Dr. Edmund Kwan, near Flushing, is a surgical procedure that can correct sagging eyebrows and diminish lines and wrinkles across the forehead, giving patients a more youthful and fresh appearance. In many cases, eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty) is performed along with a brow lift
What is a brow lift?
A brow lift procedure alters or removes the muscle and tissue in the forehead to smooth it out, raise the eyebrows, and minimize the appearance of frown lines. There are several different techniques for performing a brow lift procedure. During the consultation, Dr. Kwan can determine which method would benefit you most.
Traditional brow lift
The traditional brow lift uses an incision behind the hair line that runs from temple to temple across the scalp. Excess skin is removed, and the scar is hidden in the hairline.
Endoscopic brow lift
The endoscopic method eliminates the temple to temple scar. Instead, four small incisions are made and with the help of specialized tools and a camera, the brow is lifted.
Candidates for brow lifts
Most brow lift patients are between 40 and 60 years old. Patients who have sagging eyebrows and droopy eyelids that make them look older or tired are excellent candidates.
Recovery from brow lift
Brow lifts are typically done under general anesthesia or deep IV sedation. Recovery time depends on the technique used. Traditional brow lifts tend to have a slightly longer recovery than endoscopic brow lifts. Head wraps are used immediately after the procedure to reduce swelling. The wrap will be removed after one or two days; however, the head must be kept elevated for several days to keep swelling to a minimum. Bruising and swelling around the eyes and cheeks are normal and will resolve after about 10 days.
