Don’t look as young and refreshed as you feel? Choose eye lift treatment in Fort Lee NJ

Dr. Edmund Kwan awakens a tired, aged appearance with eye lift treatment techniques in Fort Lee NJ.

Take years off the appearance of your face and improve the comfort of your eyes and clarity of your vision with blepharoplasty. This eye lift treatment is available in Fort Lee, NJ at the office of Edmund Kwan, MD.  Trust the health and beauty of your eyes to Dr. Edmund Kwan, a board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Kwan has a diverse client base, so he’s also experienced and adept at offering “Asian blepharoplasty” or “double-eyelid surgery.”

Open your eyes to blepharoplasty

Droopy eyelids or ptosis can be caused by congenital and neurologic conditions; however, it’s most commonly associated with aging. Gradually, the tendon attached to the levator muscle that lifts your eyelid stretches. As the muscle stretches, the lid falls. Gradual changes also occur to how fat is distributed. These changes can result in excess padding over or under the eyelids, sagging eyebrows, and under-eye bags. Your eye area may make you look older than you are and more tired than you feel.

As upsetting as cosmetic changes can be, saggy tissues also interfere with peripheral vision. If you have severe ptosis, it can be difficult to open your eyes. Brows may need to be manipulated to keep the eyes open. Sometimes, patients may manually lift their eyes with their fingers, just so they can see! Many of Edmund Kwan, MD’s patients have experienced surprising effects from the blepharoplasty procedure. They no longer find themselves compulsively rubbing their heavy and weary eyes. They’re experiencing a lot more comfort and look as vibrant and youthful as they feel.

“Blepharoplasty,” combines “blepharo” (for eyelid) and “plasty” (for surgical repair). If, following a consultation and thorough examination, Dr. Kwan determines blepharoplasty is the best way to treat ptosis or related conditions, it may be recommended that smoking or the use of some medications and herbal supplements be discontinued. These products can delay healing and increase your risk of bleeding. You’ll also need to arrange a ride to pick you up from our office, an AAAASF-certified ambulatory surgery facility, following the procedure.

  • During the procedure, medications will be administered to numb the treatment area, and possibly to help you relax.
  • Kwan removes excess skin, fat, and muscle along the fold of the eyelid.
  • Incisions are closed.
  • Excess is removed along the natural crease or inside of the lid for the lower eyelids.
  • Additional procedures, such as a brow lift or skin resurfacing, may be performed at the same time as the blepharoplasty procedure.
  • Once respective incision sites are closed, you’ll be monitored by our staff at the office.

It’s common for you to experience mild redness, puffiness, tenderness, bruising, sensitivity to light, and watery eyes. These side effects are typically temporary, and after-care can aid with healing and managing symptoms. It’s generally suggested to avoid activities that strain your eyes, including working at a computer or watching television. Apply drops and ointments as directed and pain relievers may be prescribed. A follow-up appointment is scheduled around five days after surgery to remove stitches.

A note on Asian blepharoplasty

Patients of Asian descent may wish to have a pretarsal crease or fold placed on the upper eyelid. This approach can create a more “awake” and “bright-eyed” look. They may request a crease like their Asian friends who were born with such a fold. Some patients may also wish to improve a puffy or tired appearance related to a fatty upper eyelid. By removing excess and creating a natural-looking crease, patients have also found it’s easier to enhance their eyes with makeup products such as eyeliner. They may have less reliance on cosmetics, because their eyes appear larger and rejuvenated without the assistance of such products. Dr. Kwan understands that every patient’s goals are different. He creates the youthful and refreshed look that you desire, while preserving your ethnicity.

Additional techniques involve injecting fat into areas that have succumbed to volume loss, improving the “hollowed eyes” often caused by sunken upper lids. The results from these procedures can last a lifetime. Take care to protect this investment in your health and appearance from damaging ultraviolet light and other environmental factors that irritate the area and hasten the effects of aging. There is no time like the present to explore your answer to looking (and even seeing!) your best. Call 201 947 3636 to schedule your consultation with Dr. Kwan at his New Jersey office.
