If you are considering breast implants, chances are you have quite a few questions about the procedure. Dr. Edmund Kwan is an experienced surgeon in the NYC area who has decades of experience with breast augmentations. We’ve compiled a list of the following questions that are common among patients before their procedure.
What are the different shapes of implant available?
The manufacturers of breast implants have many different sizes and shapes of implants that they classify into “profiles.” When moving up in profiles the implant will extend further away from the breast and will also be narrower on the chest.
When choosing an implant size, we will consider how far it extends away from the chest as well as width to maximize cleavage while remaining natural in appearance. During the selection process, we will have different profiles available to select one that is perfect for your dimensions and body proportions.
Which type of implant is better: Saline or silicone?
In general, silicone implants are softer, more natural looking and feeling than saline implants. They are extremely safe and the newest types are made of a highly cohesive silicone gel which eliminates the fear of leaking.
Saline implants tend to be less expensive and are made with saltwater which means in the event of breakage there is no health risk.
Both implants have their advantages and we’re happy to help you choose the one that is best suited for your goals.
Do I need a breast lift along with my implants?
Answering this question depends heavily on the physical examination where we can determine the current anatomy of your breast tissue and what we want it to look like after your procedure. We can show you 3D images of your results with and without breast lift to help you make your decision.
