A “Mommy Makeover” is a collection of surgical procedures which involves a patient’s entire body. Generally, in a “Mommy Makeover” process, the most common surgical areas are the breasts and the tummy of a patient. During the surgical process, the breasts are lifted and the stomach area is tightened to provide a lean and aesthetically pleasing appearance to the patient.
If the patient is undergoing liposuction alone, the recovery period may be less than a week. However, for a complete Mommy Makeover that includes the stomach and breast areas, the recovery may take up to two to three weeks. But during this time the patient can be still be up and about, continuing their regular daily routine, but heavy physical exercise must be avoided for approximately three weeks.
In order to make things easier, “Mommy Makeover” patients are advised to arrange for a person to help during the early recovery stages. Since free movement during the initial stages will be somewhat restricted, assistance from another person with regard to medication and movement will be highly useful.
It is also very crucial for patients to contact their surgeon if they experience unusual postoperative symptoms like increased swelling, pain, bleeding and redness in the areas that underwent surgery. Moreover, development of conditions like fever, dizziness, vomiting and nausea should be reported to the surgeon immediately as well. Similarly, if patients experience breathing difficulties and pain in the chest area, contacting the surgeon should be done almost immediately.
Normally, Dr. Kwan’s patients can expect a generally quicker recovery than anticipated. Patients can also go out during latter stages of the recovery period and do all the normal activities they used to do before the surgery. As the recovery phase comes to an end and with the full visibility of the dramatic results from the surgeries, patients will feel confident and happy about their dashing and much improved appearance.
