Many people are familiar with the Juvéderm® family of dermal fillers. With so many great fillers products on the market, Edmund Kwan, MD encourages you to get to know Restylane® Filler in NYC. There is sure to be a filler product best for your unique features and needs, and properly vetted by Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Edmund Kwan.
The beauty of Restylane®
Like Juvéderm®, Restylane® is made from hyaluronic acid. This moisturizing substance is present in the skin and is also a naturally-occurring lubricant in the eyes and joints. HA-based fillers are popular, because they are generally safe to use on many different types of patients, with a low risk of allergic reactions and side effects. HA binds well to water, so when a filler product formulated with it is injected into the skin, it does a great job of adding volume, softening, and hydrating sunken, leathery, and parched skin.
Also, like several other popular dermal fillers, Restylane® is not limited to a single type of product. Behind the brand is an array of fillers designed to correct age-related concerns.
These products include Restylane®. When injected precisely into wrinkles around your nose and mouth by our skilled clinician, Restylane® adds volume and fullness to soften moderate to severe nasolabial folds. It also improves the appearance of lines below the nose and at the corners of the mouth.
Restylane® Lyft (formerly Perlane®) is designed differently from Restylane®. This sister product is made with larger molecules, which allows it to be injected deeper into the skin. Restylane® Lyft may be the preferred option for volume loss and more severe wrinkles that require the injection of filler deeper into tissues. It may be used in the mid-face or cheek area, which is often one of the first areas where volume loss is noticeable. If your hands betray your age, Restylane® Lyft to the rescue! This formulation adds fullness to wrinkled or bony-looking hands.
Restylane® Silk is a unique product formulated to plump up and define thin lips. It contains smaller and smoother particles than its sister products, which makes Restylane® Silk an ideal product for this delicate part of the face. This filler works wonders on perioral wrinkles, which may arise due to smoking or habits like frequently pursing your lips.
Restylane® Refyne and Defyne: The newest additions to the family!
These sister products are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to correct moderate and severe folds around the nose and mouth. These nasolabial folds and marionette lines at the corners of the mouth look more noticeable over time as skin loses its elasticity.
Refyne and Defyne are formulated from an advanced technology, which allows for unique cross-linking of hyaluronic acid. The gel is made in a way that’s customized to patients with varying needs.
Think of cross-linking as the knots that hold the strands in a net together, so this feature determines each product’s level of flexibility and support. Since Refyne has less cross-linking, it’s woven more loosely. Defyne has greater cross-linking, so it’s woven more tightly. The Refyne gel’s greater flexibility provides moderate support, while less flexible Defyne offers greater support. Refyne softens moderate lines. Defyne lifts deeper wrinkles.
Filling you in about Restylane
During your research, you may have come across products marked with an “L.” For instance, Restylane-L® refers to a product that is formulated with lidocaine. When mixed with the injectable gel, lidocaine numbs the treatment area to ease discomfort at the injection site. Due to allergic risks, it’s not an acceptable option for every patient.
While there are many options, some features are part of each Restylane® product, including:
- You see visible results, instantly.
- Depending on your needs, most treatments can be completed over a lunch hour.
- Usually, treatment is completed in one to two appointments.
- Depending on the product used, results may be seen for anywhere from six months to 18 months. You get longer-lasting results without the risks of side effects associated with more “permanent” fillers.
- Side effects are typically limited to temporary mild swelling, tenderness, bruising, and redness.
- Products are FDA-approved for use among patients aged 21 and older.
